Pro-Natura International (Nigeria) is non- governmental organization with sustainable institutional development at the heart of its focus. Our key programmatic pillars are Community driven development, Training and Capacity Building and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Support for Business.
At PNI we believe in the power of institutions to drive a reduction in inequalities and poverty and we provide support to institutions at every level through strategic partnerships to articulate, implement and deliver their development goals sustainably.
Founded in 1997 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission CAC in 2001, Pro-Natura has over 20 years of development experience working with partner institutions in facilitating participatory programmes and designing innovations that tackle various social, economic and environmental problems that face rural and urban communities in Nigeria. Pro-Natura International (Nigeria) is an affliliate of Pronatura International a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
We emphasize the power of participation by all stakeholders affected by the development process, and the role of strong institutions in harnessing participation and delivering development.
Chris Davino- President Pronatura International
Chris is an executive and a proven leader with 28 years experience advising and running organizations in more than twenty industries including retail, healthcare, consumer products, gaming, transportation, technology, media and entertainment. Trained as turnaround professional, he has acted in capacities ranging from restructuring advisor, investment banker, Independent Director, Chairman of the Board, and CEO for companies small to large cap, public and private, domestic and international. In these roles he has achieved extraordinary results guiding companies through every stage of the business cycle: from conceptualization and start up, to development stage and growth, with a substantial amount of experience leading companies through the most challenging of circumstances – addressing substantive viability issues and acute financial distress.
Through these diverse experiences, Chris has a proven track record in developing and executing creative and complex strategic plans intended to significantly increase enterprise value for the benefit of a company’s stakeholders. As an investment banker, a role in which Chris has also spent a significant portion of his career, he has executed M&A, financing and recapitalization transactions for mid and large cap companies. Since January 2013, Chris has been operating Osprey Point LLC. through which he is acting in operating, advisory and investment banking capacities with respect to growth stage companies with a particular focus on the intersection of transformations taking place in technology and media/entertainment.
In 2016 Chris assumed managerial and operational leadership for Pronatura International headquartered in New York. Chris attended the United States Coast Guard Academy and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance, from Lehigh University in May 1989.
John Adeyemi Adeleke- Chairman Board of Trustees- Pronatura Nigeria
John is both a member of the Board of Directors-Trustees, and oversees management affairs as the Executive Director of WTCN (Lagos). A former Barrister at London’s Inner Temple (in Britain) he was also called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. He was a ‘Partner-of-Counsel’ in commercial law practice at the Law Union, and has also run his own risk management and advisory consultancy for in-coming foreign investors, for the last 15 years. John has been engaged to write for such publications as The Economist Intelligence Unit, The Economist magazine, Emerging Markets Investor (a Risk Waters publication, London) and the ‘Public Ledger’ (covering West African commodity trading issues, then an LLP publication, London). Apart from involvements with family related companies, and other Directorships he is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Pro-Natura International (www.pronatura-nigeria.org) a community development NGO working in the fields of sustainable development innovations and more recently, in rain forest management and preservation, as it relates to community development and carbon credits trading initiatives.
John has been the Regional Coordinator for Africa for the WTCA in New York since 1997. In June 1998 he was appointed to the inaugural 7- member Strategic Planning Committee of the WTCA, and since 2001 has been elected three times to the Board of the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) in New York. He is also known to be passionate about Nigerian arts and heritage.
Nalaguo Chris Alagoa – Trustee
Chris Alagoa has a wide and cognate experience in the pursuit of global civil society interests and has functioned over the years as a sustainable development specialist, conflict manager, peace builder and administrator.
With a background in fisheries and aquaculture Chris was the founding Chairman of the Board of Trustees and first Executive Director of Pro Natura International, Nigeria. He was also the pioneer Executive Secretary and Programme Manager of world famous Akassa Development Foundation (ADF). He moved on to being the Coordinator of the Niger Delta Peace and Security Secretariat; a framework conceived in 2005 by the Presidency and other key stakeholders in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, for facilitating peace in a seriously disturbed and insecure Niger Delta. Nalaguo Chris Alagoa is now a practicing fisherman, farmer and member of the board of PNI.
Dr. Nasra Ali- Trustee
Nasra has had a long standing career in public health working with Government, the United Nations, International NGO’s and the private sector. She has also garnered broad and diverse work experience in the social sector in varying capacities including but not limited to grant and project management, networking, partnership management, resource mobilization and governance to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. She holds a BDS from the University of Hacettepe Turkey and a Masters in Advanced Public health with an additional certificate in Health Economics from the University of Geneva. She has actively participated in two World Health Assemblies in Geneva between 2005 and 2006 and has been Health Advisor to the International Red Cross.
Her professional memberships include Board positions on the Kenya Medical Board and the University of Geneva Alumni. Nasra is currently Managing Director of Kaldi Africa Limited the first specialty roastery in West Africa. Kaldi Africa limited is part of the European association of specialty coffee. She has excellent command of English, Somali, Kiswahili, Turkish and working knowledge of French.
Fabia Ogunmekan- Executive Director
Fabia is a lawyer and Corporate Executive with over 17 years’ experience in corporate administration, legal services and management consulting. She has worked largely in the private sector in the fields of law, healthcare and development projects. She has worked in full time and consulting capacities with corporate businesses and non-profits in the focus areas of organizational management, governance, strategy, fundraising and operational deliverables. Additionally Fabia has collaborated on public sector projects in the healthcare, community development and entrepreneurship space. She is Governance practitioner with a variety of cross sector training roles building skills in good governance and programme management skills for entrepreneurs.
She currently works in a leadership capacity with Pronatura International an organization that has sustainable development at the heart of its focus. She holds a Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) from the University College London, and a Master of Science in NGO Management from the Cass Business School, City University. She was called to the Nigerian Bar (BL) in January 2001 and has attended various courses on management, leadership and advocacy including the Senior Management programme at the Lagos Business School. She is a Chartered Mediator with Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (Nigeria). Prior to joining Pronatura International (Nigeria), she worked with the Tony Elumelu Foundation as the Alumni Engagement Manager and prior to that with Hygeia Nigeria Limited, an integrated Healthcare Company as the Group Legal Adviser and Corporate Services Manager. She is a Founding Trustee of Imara Foundation an NGO that promotes the empowerment of girls, women and families where she continues to volunteer on programme strategy.
Omoniyi Olakoya- Director
Niyi started his career as a management trainee with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, after which he worked with World Mission Agency – Covenant University Group as Project Accountant, and later as the Head of Banking and Treasury of the Group.
After his studies in the UK, he joined Capgemini consulting as an intern, after which he returned to Nigeria to join the consulting arm of Okta Associates Ltd/ Abayomi Oke & Co. Chartered Accountants as a manager in charge of non-profit consulting and treasury management. Niyi became the Senior Finance and Administrative Manager of Pro Natura International, Nigeria in 2011.
He is responsible for the planning and management of PNI’s resources. He holds a Bsc. in Finance & Banking (Nig), MBA (Nig), PGD – Financial Operations and Management (UK). He is also a part qualified of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants UK, an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Management, and an Associate of Operations Research Society of UK. He also undertook a programme in Financial and Performance Management of non-profits at the Harvard University (USA).
